involves the high\u2011precision determination and mapping of the Earth\u2019s surface and the position and dimensions of the objects located on it. The surveyor\u2019s responsibilities also include marking out the \u201cdesigned\u201d points shown on plans or maps in the field \u2014 such as road alignments, parcel boundaries or building corner points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">In everyday language, <em>land surveying<\/em> and <em>geodesy<\/em> refer to the same activity, both carried out by land surveyors \u2014 also known as geodesists. There is, however, a subtle difference in how the two terms are used. <em>Land surveying<\/em> typically covers the more practical, day\u2011to\u2011day fieldwork (such as parcel surveys, road staking, or field measurements required for updating land registry records), while <em>geodesy<\/em> places more emphasis on the theoretical background. Within the profession, the terms <em>lower geodesy<\/em> and <em>higher geodesy<\/em> provide clearer distinctions: the former corresponds more closely to land surveying, while the latter aligns with geodesy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">While higher geodesy deals with the theoretical aspects of the discipline \u2014 such as the high\u2011precision determination of geodetic control networks or the shape of the Earth \u2014 lower geodesy focuses on practical implementation, relying on this theoretical foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left
